For the kidnapping of an asylum seeker in November 2023 in Hoogeveen, a 39-year-old Syrian man from Exloo and his 21-year-old son from Groningen demanded a 270-day prison sentence, of which 195 days are conditional. Both spent 75 days in custody.
Father and son suffered from the recalcitrant behavior of their adult daughter and sister. She felt locked up in her upbringing and wanted freedom. According to the public prosecutor, the father searched for someone who knew where she was and could influence his daughter.
The man came into contact with someone who knew a resident of the asylum seekers’ center in Hoogeveen, who was dealing with the man’s daughter. The contact person attracted the asylum seeker to the suspect’s car. Someone would be needed for a cleaning job. To talk about that, both men got into the car. There were another five men here. The ride went to a remote place in the forest. The asylum seeker is said to have put a knife on the throat. He had to promise to cooperate in a fall for the woman.
He would lure the daughter to a place where her family would wait for her. After his insurance, the victim was taken out of the car near the asylum seekers’ center. The man immediately went to the police. He had outsourced death, the man told. It was six to one, the man is still anxious to this day, said his lawyer during the right to speak. The victim has since been transferred to an unknown location and did not appear in court.
The track soon went through the contact person to the two suspects. According to the public prosecutor, everything turned out to be the men to track down and take their daughter and sister. He gets this from the story of the declarant and the scratches in the man’s neck, who remarked the agents shortly after the incident. There are also telephone data from the victim and the suspects who support the declaration. Moreover, the stories of father and son are contradictory with each other, says the prosecutor.
The public prosecutor thinks this is a serious matter. Taking the victim against his will also had an effect on the daughter. “Everything revolved around her,” he said. According to him, positive is that everyone now leaves each other alone. The son was also on trial for a mistreatment of his sister in October 2023 in Emmen. He met her by accident. The father asked the judge for understanding: the behavior of his daughter caused a lot of stress within the family. He acted where he comes from as a father can be expected.
According to his lawyer, the man has often contacted the police about the offensive attitude of his daughter. But nothing was seen in it. “And that does not fit with self -direction from a cultural background,” said his lawyer. “We are now in the Netherlands and stick to the law here,” the suspect added. The defense believes that the men should be acquitted. And that the compensation of 3000 euros for the victim has to get off the table.
