The relegation-threatened handball Bundesliga club HC Erlangen broke up with his coach Martin Schwalb. Schwalbs successor is also his predecessor.
The relegation-threatened handball Bundesliga club HC Erlangen and coach Martin Schwalb are now going their separate ways. “The hoped-for athletic development has failed to materialize since the former Hamburg’s commitment,” said the penultimate table on his homepage. Until further notice, assistant coach Johannes Sellin and Matthias Obinger take over the team.
Schwalbs record: only five points from 15 games
Sellin had only been replaced by the 61-year-old Schwalb as the new head coach last October. Under the former coach of HSV Hamburg, which had won the Champions League, the German Championship and the DHB Cup with the Hanseates, the Middle Franconia only won five points in 15 games and have been in the table cellar for months.
On Sunday (3:00 p.m.), the Erlangen will receive the TSV Hannover-Burgdorf table second.
Schwalb: “hit and a little sad”
“Of course I met and a little sad because the HC Erlangen is a great community and I would have liked to have been a bit of it,” says Schwalb in an interview with handball world. “But it shouldn’t be now that the decision was made differently – and then you have to accept it. That’s how it is business.”
“I am basically grateful to the HC Erlangen that I had the chance to be a coach. You have to say that very clearly,” said the 61-year-old. “I thrown everything I have in the balance.”
