The showpieces that are still in the shed on Vennepse Lucas Bolsstraat are currently towering above the mess. Volunteers are busy cleaning up and patching up pieces that get a new destination.
It is certain that the collection with the closure falls apart, but the hobbyists are not going to take their gems to the demolition. They are therefore looking for a smaller space to continue tinkering.
‘A dream for many people’
For example, Hans Altena has been working on for four years The renovation of the Trans Europ Express: A train that was used until 1977 for train journeys through Europe.
He does a heart cry: “The transport museum was a dream for many people and clubs and they all had their own dream […] We hope to find someone who also dreams and wants to help us. “
He knows that that search is not easy. “A carriage weighs 45 tons and we have five,” he replies to the question of whether a back garden is sufficient. He therefore thinks more about a business park or farmyard. He would prefer to be able to continue working with his group of volunteers. “The ultimate goal is that it will drive again.”
