VolodyMyr Zensky is willing to give up his position as Ukrainian president ‘immediately’ if that meant peace in his country. Zelensky said that on Sunday afternoon during a press conference in Kyiv, international press agencies report. “If you want me to leave my post, I am ready,” said Zensky, and he added that he would trade in presidency for accession of Ukraine to NATO.
In his speech against US President Donald Trump, the Ukrainian president seemed to speak. Zensky wants to see Trump as a “partner”, he said. “I really want it to be more than just mediation,” says Zensky about the role of Trump in the negotiations on peace in Ukraine. The US and Russia have not involved Ukraine in the peace conversations so far.
‘Dictator’
Trump has thrown himself as the most important mediator between Kyiv and Moscow. Last week he seems to choose the narrative of Russia about the war: Trump called Zelenksy a “dictator” and repeated Russian war propaganda that not Russia but Ukraine had started war.
The Ukrainian president came back to this in his speech on Sunday and said he was not offended. “Only a dictator would be insulted by the word dictator.” The press conference is still working at the moment. Zensky says he wants to meet Trump before a possible top between the American president and Vladimir Putin.
