After three defeats in a row, Prussia Münster ended up in the 2nd Bundesliga against the bottom of SSV Jahn Regensburg. Münster won the basement duel of the promoters 2-0 (1: 0) on matchday 23.

Due to the hits of the substitute Holmbert Fridjonsson (42nd) and defender Simon Scherder (69th), Münster not only increased the distance to the direct relegation places to five points, but with 23 points, at least for the time being, completely from the “red zone” the table. For Regensburg (15 points), on the other hand, after the fourth away defeat in a row at the end of the table, it continues to be dark.

Münster needs a long start

In a competitive initial phase, the guests from Regensburg had the first degree on deep ground when a cross from Cologne loan Sargis Adamyan (11th) slipped through the penalty area towards the long corner. But Prussian goalkeeper Johannes Schenk went long and prevented the impact.

Then duels and yellow cards determine the game. Prussia actually only came into the game when coach Sascha Hildmann saved his yellow strained striker Etienne Amenyido from dismissal by replacing him against Fridjonsson (35th). Shortly afterwards, Pick (37th) made the host’s first shot, but clearly grimaced from five meters in a reserve.

“Joker” Fridjonsson strikes immediately

Suddenly Prussia was involved. One of Marc Lorenz (39th )’s many wide throws caused confusion in the Jahn penalty room, but after several blocked shots, the guests could still clarify. But shortly afterwards it had happened: Fridjonsson took a Kinsombi flank perfectly past the opponent and completed from six meters at the right time for 1-0 break.

This gave the host’s offensive game significantly tailwind. In round two determined Münster from the kick -off the game and quickly had chances on the preliminary decision with a shot by David Kinsombi (52.) and a header of the busy Fridjonsson (53.). In contrast, hardly anything came from Regensburg.

Prussia veteran Scherder ensures relief

Nevertheless, the game initially remained open in terms of the result before Scherder calmed down the minds of the Prussian fans. In a long Lorenz free kick, the advanced central defender screwed up at the right moment and pressed the ball from five meters over the right post to 2-0 into the goal. For the 31-year-old veteran from his own youth, it was the first second division goal of his professional career.

Regensburg was then to be seen that the game wanted to give another turn, but overall the bottom of the table was far too harmless. In the final phase, a few long, high balls towards the Prussian penalty room caused a bit of excitement, but it was no longer really tight for the hosts on the way to the third home win of the season.
