The 46-year-old Maikel Kievits was beaten to death on 3 September 2023 in a house on the Brugstraat in Den Bosch. The police found him with a pillow on his face while there was blood on the ceiling. His friend Alex de V. (51) admitted that he had done it, but why and how it went exactly, it turned out on Wednesday a difficult issue in the court in Den Bosch. The penalty requirement was not tender: 15 years in prison and TBS with coercion.
To understand the story of the death of Maikel, or Mike, the context must first be outlined. The judges spent the necessary hours for this on Wednesday. In addition to Alex, Maikel’s girlfriend, Nicole S. (58), was also on trial. Justice believes that she is complicit in the murder of Mike and demanded 40 months in prison against her.
Nicole lived in September 2023 in a rental house in the Brugstraat in the center of Den Bosch. But she was no longer the boss in her own home. Her friend Maikel made the service there and it was a coming and going of dealers, vague friends and acquaintances from the homeless world, who sometimes stayed elsewhere and then stayed in the Brugstraat again or just came to use. It was not without reason that housing construction had issued a final warning because the house had everything from a drug building.
The common thread in their lives was the use of a lot of alcohol, speed, coke, pep, medicines, soft drugs and other narcotic agents. And that for years. This made the search of the judges extra complex.
“I have often had fearful moments with him.”
Mike could be aggressive and threatening, his girlfriend told Nicole. For example if he had no money. He mainly used Crack and received methadone daily. “I have often had fearful moments with him,” she said. Despite that, they had been together for decades, of which Mike was in TBS treatment for years.
Good family friend Alex, who had met Mike on the street during his life, acted as a kind of security guard of the house. He let people in or not, and Nicole liked him in the house. But in the night of 2 to 3 September it went completely wrong.
Mike had had a fight with Nicole earlier in the day about a dealer and his girlfriend, who temporarily stayed in the house. He threatened to hit things short and small. Alex went to talk to him outside, while Mike has since sold balls of cocaine. “We spoke about his home situation,” Alex said. “He could not get rid of his addiction and was sad about it.”
Mike came home first that night. He lay down in bed, said Nicole, who had been home all evening. Not much later, around a quarter to one, Alex came home. For some reason he was furious and hit a hole in a coffee table, according to Nicole. He would have said that Mike had taken her everything. He suggested killing Mike, says Nicole. She had to think about that for a moment, but after five minutes she agreed to kill her own friend in his own bed.
Alex went into the bedroom and hit Mike into the brain there. Nicole was now in the front room with the sliding doors closed, the TV hard and her fingers in her ears.
“She gave a guest permission to kill her friend.”
Alex had a completely different story. In the first instance, Nicole told the police the same story. They would have been in the bedroom together, where Maikel was watching Mike Tyson’s bed in bed. According to Alex, Mike became aggressive against Nicole and threatened to break her. When Mike grabbed the bedside table to grab a knife, Alex would have grabbed a hammer who swung around there and jumped on Mike.
Anyway, the rest of the night Alex and Nicole were silent on the couch. They went outside to look for butts because they had nothing to smoke. Around half past seven in the morning Alex went to get beer and cigarettes. He knew he would go to prison and did some shopping.
He then called his supervisor, who then called in the police. Alex was arrested and more than a week later Nicole. The police found a massacre in the bedroom, where a pillow was stuck on the face of the heavily mutilated Mike.
The judges thought it was strange that Nicole had adjusted her statement and thereby made herself a suspense. She apparently said yes to the request to kill Mike and so knew what was going to happen.
The public prosecutor joined her story and rejected the scenario of Alex. Because she assumed that Alex had requested permission from Nicole and could therefore have thought about his act, it was assumed premeditated and therefore murder.
The officer saw that Alex has various disorders and has had a tough life. Since he is stuck, he has no one anymore. With 15 years she demanded a strong prison sentence, but Alex must also be treated. Given his enormous problems and compelling personality, this is only possible.
“Without her, Mike wouldn’t be dead now.”
According to the judiciary, Nicole has to go into the cell for 8 months for complicity in murder. She gave Alex permission to kill her boyfriend and did nothing to stop him. In fact, she stayed with him all night and initially made a favorable explanation for him.
“Without her, Mike would not be dead now,” the officer concluded. “She gave a guest permission to kill her friend.” Because Nicole is deemed to be reduced by imputable, it was demanded by 40 months in prison.
