Against Celtic, Harry Kane had to down on Wednesday at half time. After that, not only the question arose how long it would be, but also where he is injured.

The change for some observers did not come as a surprise. After all, Kane had gone slightly into the game. In Leverkusen, he had suffered a painful blow on the jaw on Saturday, which is why he also missed training two days later.

The change was only surprising afterwards, because the reason for Kanes premature ended was not the jaw. He felt “problems with the calf”, said the Englishman. “I’ll have a scan done. Now it’s time to keep your fingers crossed,” said Kane after the game.

It was somewhat strange, however, that sports director Max Eberl spoke of pain on the calf after moving into the round of 16, but of ankle problems. “It was better to take it out and protect it. Hopefully that’s enough until Sunday,” said Eberl, referring to the Bundesliga top game against Eintracht Frankfurt.

It was a shame, added coach Vincent Kompany, “that Harry is out, but I can’t say how long and what he has. We will see that.”

In any case, it will be a challenge for Kompany to replace Kane. After all, another classic center forward is missing in the Bayern squad. Against Celtic, the lack of presence in the storm center in the second round was to be noticed. Maybe against Frankfurt then Thomas Müller moves into the starting eleven, who has been used by Kompany in the top a few times. Serge Gnabry would also be conceivable, who already appeared in this role, at least among previous trainers.
