The three-month lock for the Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner creates discussions. The German number one, Alexander Zverev, expresses his opinion.

At Alexander Zverev, dealing with the Doping Causa around Jannik Sinner and the three-month lock for the Italian tennis star is surprised. For him it is about whether it was Sinner’s mistakes or not, the world ranking runner from Hamburg told the tennis portal “Clay” at the ATP tournament in Rio de Janeiro.

“Either you have not been guilty, then you shouldn’t be blocked at all. Because if you are not to blame, then you have no fault. You shouldn’t be punished,” said Zverev. “But if you let yourself be guilty of something, I think that three months are not a lock for taking steroids.” Zverev described the situation and the whole process since last year as “strange”.

Sinner was tested positively in March 2024. The South Tyrolean had stated that the forbidden agent closebol had reached his body over the hands of a supervisor during a massage. The responsible tennis agency ITIA saw no deliberate fault and no negligence and waived a lock. In contrast, the WELT-Anti-doping agency Wada performed.

On Saturday it became known that Sinner agreed with the Wada on a three -month lock. The world ranking of the world ranking is not allowed to play tournaments by May 4th – the lock ends in good time in front of the French Open, which begins on May 25th in Paris. Due to the agreement, the WADA withdrew its objection to the CAS sports arbitration court.

After the clearly lost final at the Australian Open, Zverev had commented on the athletic class of the South Tyrolean on Hartplatz. In Melbourne he had no chance and had not fulfilled his dream of the first Grand Slam title. At the award ceremony, Sinner had comforted him and encouraged him that he could achieve his big goal.
