The 1. FC Magdeburg won a home game for the first time after almost a year – the 1. FC Köln could now lose its lead.
The 3: 0 (0: 0) against 1. FC Köln was the first victory for the 1st FC Magdeburg since February 24, 2024. At that time, Magdeburg Schalke beat 3-0. It was the first defeat for Cologne after three second division victories in a row. Daniel Heber (73.) Mo El Hankouri (79th) and Samuel Loric (90.+3) scored the Magdeburg goals. The FCM temporarily moved to third place by winning. “We do a lot of things well – it was a matter of time”said Magdeburg coach Christian Titz on ARD radio at the end of the winlos series at home. “We have quality in the offensive quality. It was nice that we also rewarded ourselves on the defensive. The 1. FC Köln can be difficult to crack.”

The Cologne team could lose their lead to Hamburger SV (Sunday near Jahn Regensburg) or 1. FC Kaiserlautern (Saturday against Hannnover 96). “We came in well, but then lost the trip”said Cologne coach Gerhard Struber on ARD radio. “The defeat would not have been necessary. We allowed the gates too easily, that is not our claim.”

FCM goalkeeper Reimann asked at the beginning
At the start, Magdeburg’s goalkeeper Dominik Reimann focused on: he parried the shot of the Cologne Florian Kainz (5th) as well as he thwarted a dangerous pass from Jan Thielmann in the middle (12th). At a corner he prevented the goal against Timo Hübers and Mathias Olesen (15th).
Then Magdeburg came to the first chances: Alexander Ahl Holmström met Livan Burcu at the presentation of Livan Burcu, who was previously just offside (18th). Ahl Holmström then shot just left (21st), Marcus Mathisen headed over the gate (22nd) at a corner. Cologne – plagued by injuries anyway – had to change early: Learst Pacarada left the place in the 30th minute with a thigh injury.
Injured replaced – Learst Pacarada (right).
Decision within six minutes
The FCM started better in the second half: Baris Atik missed the finish from 22 meters by centimeter, the ball flew past on the right.
Then Magdeburg decided the game within six minutes. In the 73rd minute, Atik flanked a free kick from the right into the Cologne penalty area, Heber prevailed against Damion Downs in the header duel and hit. FC moved up what Magdeburg used: After a steep pass, Martijn Kaars played over half -left into the Cologne penalty area. The ball came to El Hankouri via Samuel Loric, whose shot Cologne’s goalkeeper Marvin Schwäbe could no longer ward off (79.). Loric increased to 3: 0 (90.+2) in added time.
