Bas Dost didn’t really know what to say after his gala in Leverkusen. “I first have to pinch myself whether this really happened,” said the Wolfsburg striker on February 14th, 2015, ten years ago. Previously, however, he had already had the last word on the pitch in the wolves of the wolves at Bayer. In one of the most spectacular Bundesliga games of the century, the Dutch scored 5: 4 for VfL in added time-his fourth goal that day.
In the opposite, Heung-Min Son had ensured that it became dramatic despite the 0: 3 half-time residue after the break. To date, there has been no Bundesliga game in which two players each achieved a hat trick or three-pack. Dost had already opened the goal series in the 6th minute and after the 2-0 by colleague Naldo himself, the supposed preliminary decision was made in the first half hour of the game. Then Son started, before 29.227 in the BayArena between the 57th and 67th minute twice with right and once left into the gate of Diego Benaglio. In the meantime, Dost had shot his team for the 4-2 lead. Karim Bellarabi scored the 4: 4 equalization 20 minutes before the end of Dost to the fourth blow (5: 4, on the game report with the lists and events).
So far, there have been 16 times in history that several players score at least three goals in a Bundesliga game. The first two stood at 7-0 by Eintracht Frankfurt against Werder Bremen in the premiere season 1963/64 for the same team on the field: Wilhelm Huberts scored four times. The last ones who succeeded in the opponents Dost and Son were in 2005/06 Halil Altintop and Ebi Smolarek – also as an opponent. They alone scored the goals in the 3: 3 between Kaiserslautern and BVB. The game between Borussia Mönchengladbach and Schalke 04, which went 11-0 for the foals, has remained unique in history and scored three goals in each three players: Bernd Rupp, Herbert Laumen, Jupp Heynckes.
