Jessica de Rooij called on Monday by State Secretary Vicky Maeijer of long -term and social care. The reason for the phone call was an article from Omroep Brabant this weekend in which Jessica described in what administrative swamp you end up when you are confronted with a serious illness like ALS.

Jessica’s husband died a few months ago from this deadly disease. She took care of her husband during his sick bed of a year and a half. Because the disease is so fast and the regulations are so complicated, Jessica almost drowned in all regulations.

Speechless
Earlier, the Ministry had already acknowledged that the care system is complicated for the sick who quickly get sicker and therefore always have different and new requests for help. But now the State Secretary himself called. Vicky Maeijer wanted to hear from Jessica what her experiences were.

“The State Secretary was speechless of my story,” says Jessica. “She said that she wants to get this problem on the political agenda and that her ministry is working on plans that have to make it easier to get the right help quickly when an illness quickly gets worse.”

“I am happy that I was able to contribute to putting this problem on the map,” says Jessica.
