50 years to Woody Allen side
The actor was primarily known for his many years of collaboration with director Woody Allen. For example, he was seen in “The City Neurotic” (1977), “A Summer Night sex comedy” (1982), “Hannah and her sisters” (1986) and “Radio Days” (1987). His roles were often the best friend of Allen’s own characters.
Before that, they had worked together on Broadway, where Tony Roberts started his career in the early 1960s. For his role in Allers “do it again, Sam” (1969), he was even nominated for the Tony Theater Prize. Roberts’ last role was that of the Max Kellerman in the new edition of the dance film “Dirty Dancing” in 2017.
In 2015, Tony Roberts published his own review of his career with “Do You Know Me?” In these memoirs he described himself as happy to “experience the last years of the Golden Age of Broadway”.
Now he died of the consequences of lung cancer at the age of 85. His daughter Nicole Burley confirmed death to the “New York Times”.
