Defending champion dismantled: Eagles win super bowl

A highly expected Super Bowl became a very clear matter. Defending champion Kansas City experienced a debacle against Philadelphia.
The Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl for the second time and humiliated defending champion Kansas City Chiefs. Instead of winning the world’s most important football game for the third time in series, the chiefs in New Orleans received a crashing 22:40 under the eyes of US President Donald Trump (read the record here).
For Philadelphia, it was a successful revenge for the defeat two years ago when the Chiefs still turned a ten-point deficit and won the title in the National Football League.
Star Quarterback Patrick Mahomes experienced an evening to forget and has to wait for his fourth Super Bowl triumph with the chiefs. Taylor Swift, girlfriend of Chiefs professional Travis Kelce, did not bring luck in the stands. The pop superstar was mercilessly booed by many spectators when she could be seen on the video screen. The fans of the Eagles were clearly outnumbered – and were allowed to celebrate in the end.

Eagles Quarterback Jalen Hurts was awarded the most valuable player in the game. However, the 26-year-old praised his colleagues from the defense, which Mahomes kept slowing down. “The defensive wins titles. We saw today what they made for a difference,” said Hurts. “I’m so happy,” enthused Philadelphia’s coach Nick Sirianni. “I will shed a few tears of joy today.”
In the middle of the first half, Mahomes threw the ball into the arms of opponent Cooper Dejean. It ran into the end zone for almost half the field and scored a touchdown on his 22nd birthday. There has never been in a super bowl. Shortly afterwards, the Eagles were 17: 0 in front by the subsequent extra point, the chiefs never recovered from it.
The chiefs are familiar with residues in the Super Bowl, in the two title winners 2023 and 2024 they were clearly in the back. However, the attackers around Mahomes were never as harmless and helpless as in the first half in New Orleans.
Eagles playmaker Hurts, who was the first touchdown himself, conducted his teammates in a controlled manner, Mahomes, on the other hand, found no means at all and looked at a loss. 1:56 minutes before half -time, the chiefs got the ball after a good performance of their defense. Seven seconds later, Mahomes had fired football in the arms of an opponent a second time. When another nine seconds ran from the clock, AJ Brown celebrated a touchdown. 24: 0 for the break-the biggest optimists among the Eagles fans would not have dared to dream.
The chiefs were slightly improved, but it made no difference. The Eagles continued to take every opportunity to spoil the evening to the defending champion and put Mahomes under pressure again and again – and the chiefs found no antidote.
Even before the end of the third quarter, the game was decided at the stand of 34: 6. Everything after that was only relevant for the statistics – the Eagles were allowed to celebrate their second triumph after 2018.
An hour before the start of the game, Donald Trump appeared on the field, waved, shook a few hands and stood for a photo next to victims and relatives of the terrorist attack on January 1st. Most people in the superdome did not yet take a note from the first US president who visited a super bowl live on site. That changed when the 78-year-old could be seen in the national anthem on the big monitors in the stadium: jubilation and boos also happened, but in the end there was more popularity than rejection for the president (read more about this here) . Even before the first touchdown of the chiefs in the second half, Trump left the stadium.
