Holstein Kiel and VfL Bochum step on the spot in the Bundesliga relegation battle. The 2: 2 (1: 2) in the basement duel neither helped the penultimate from the north nor the last from the west.
The Kielers missed to leave one of the two direct relegation places in the entertaining game for the first time since the 2nd matchday at the end of August in the entertaining game. With 13 points, as well as the Bochum (11 points), they remain at the end of the classification and in the highest danger.
Steven Skrzybski (3rd) gave the Kielers in the lead early on with a penalty. Before the break, the Bochumers turned the game through Myron Boadu (37th/39th) within 123 seconds. In the first half, both goal scorers had to get out.
In the second section, Holstein’s defense chief David Zec (50th) managed. Holstein’s supposed winning goal by Lewis Holtby (73.) was revoked after foul game after VAR intervention.
The game was just a minute old when referee Felix Zwayer decided on a penalty. Kiel’s winter access John Tolkin shot Bochum’s Felix Passlack on the arm in the VfL penalty room. Skrzybski gave Bochum’s goalkeeper Patrick Drewes a chance. It was the third goal in succession after scored twice a week earlier in the 3: 4 near Bayern Munich.
But Skrzybski couldn’t help his team against Bochum for long. In the 25th minute he had to be replaced with an injury to the left thigh. Holstein coach Marcel Rapp had been forced to act six minutes earlier. The previously good defender Marco Komenda had to be replaced with eye problems after a collision. But the Bochumer also hit the bad luck. For Boadu (45.+2), it was also early shortly after his double pack.

Overall, the first half was not high -class, but sometimes wild and entertaining. Both teams tried to play forward. The Kielers had more problems than the Bochum.
The guests did not let themselves be shocked from the early deficit and always came to opportunities. Komenda saved from Boadu (11th) and thwarted the long time of VfL. Otherwise, the Bochumers were the defining team and often benefited from inaccuracies of the Kielers in their game structure. Even the early forced changes did not affect the hosts’ game.
The entertainment value of the basement duel remained high in the second round. Both teams continued to search their salvation on the offensive. In the Kielers, substitute Armin Gigovic revitalized the game. He narrowly missed the equalization. A minute later, ZEC (50th) was more successful with a head. Kiel got better and better. It was bad luck for Holstein that Holtby’s goal was not recognized – rightly so? The Truetabelle community discusses this here.
