The German toboggan teams won gold, silver and bronze at the World Cup premiere of the Mixed relay competition. However, David Nößler experienced a drama.

Max Langenhan and Julia Taubitz (Friedrichroda/Oberwiesenthal) gilded the opening day of the racing toilet World Cup in Whistler in Canada for the German team. They wrote winter sports history when they won the first World Cup race in the Einshond mixed relay on Thursday (06.02.2025).

Langenhan and Taubitz referred Jonathan Eric Gustafson and Emily Sweeney (USA, +0.095 seconds) as well as David Gleirscher and Madeleine Egle (Austria, + 0.324 seconds).

“Starting with gold into the World Cup weekend is of course really nice”, said Taubitz. Langenhan was happy about one “Cool start to the World Cup. I hope we can take the swing with us”.

Nößler starts with broken foot – and almost falls

The second German team with David Nößler and Merle Fräbel (Schmalkalden/Suhl) experienced a small drama and was disqualified. Nößler skidded on the home stretch and could no longer trigger the touchpad. So Fräbel was therefore no longer allowed to start.

Nößler seemed to have severe pain afterwards and had to be supported when walking. He only broke the midfoot in January, but was still started. When he lost control in the finish area, he hit the gang several times and tried to protect his injured foot.

Double-seater gold to Austria

On Thursday afternoon, the Austrian team with Thomas Steu, Wolfgang Kindl, Selina Egle and Lara Michaela Kipp lived up to his favorite role in the mixed competition of the two-seater relay. However, their victory was still in danger with the last starters.

Team Germany 1 with Hannes Orlamünder, Paul Constantin, Dajana Eitberger and Magdalena Matschina raced with only 0.018 seconds behind and secured silver. Third place went to the second German team with Tobias Wendl, Tobias Arlt, Jessica Degenhardt and Cheyenne Rosenthal with 0.097 seconds behind gold.

“We take a medal with us. We can be more than satisfied with that”said Gubitz. Orlamünder reminded that the Duo’s World Cup adventure started with a training fall. “I am super happy. The narrow deficit is annoying, but we don’t look at it”, said Eitberger.

Mixed competition as a sprint replacement

The mixed competition replaces the sprint among the racing tobogganists. The title fights on the 2010 Olympic Railway end on Sunday night with the team relay. Before that, the double-seaters and the single-seaters are about the World Cup medals.
