(askanews) – Thousands of people took to the streets in Vienna, Austria, to protest against negotiations for the first Austrian government led by the far right, while the efforts to form a government coalition have been dragging for months after the vote of September 29th 2024 The demonstrators danced and sung before the start of the procession, writes AFP.
“We must avoid what has unfortunately already happened once”, comments Alexandra, who participates in the protest to “increase awareness of the current political situation in Austria”.
With writings such as “Nazi outside” and “never more”, many have expressed the fear that a government led by the far -right party Fpoe would not respect the rule of law, as well as the rights of minorities and other rights.
The Fpoe has been negotiating since the beginning of January with the Conservative Popular Party (OEVP), for a long time in power, which arrived second in the September vote. “Negotiations with the government are in a difficult phase,” said Oevp in recent days, without providing further details.
