The sales in the retail trade of the euro zone fell slightly more than expected in December.

In the month comparison, revenues decreased by 0.2 percent, as the European Statistics Office Eurostat announced on Thursday in Luxembourg. Economist: On average, an average of 0.1 percent expected.

In November, sales had remained stable according to the revised numbers. Initially, an increase was reported by 0.1 percent.

Retail sales were burdened by lower proceeds in the food trade. These gave up 0.7 percent for the previous month. The sales of engine fabrics at petrol stations, on the other hand, increased by 0.2 percent. The proceeds have also increased in the non-food sector (without fuels), which increased by 0.3 percent.

Compared to the same month last year, retail sales increased by 1.9 percent. This was expected. In 2024, retail sales rose by 1.0 percent in the previous year.
