The crash of ski jumping legend Simon Ammann continues unchecked. In the hierarchy of the Swiss team, the four-time Olympic champion in front of the World Cup station in Lake Placid slipped even further.
Due to the participation of the 18-year youth hope Felix Trunz, a place in the Junior World Cup was released in the squad of the Confederates. This does not receive Simon Ammann, but Remo Imhof.
“Remo continued in the Continental Cup in a direct duel with Simon,” explained coach Martin Künzle to the “Blick”. In mid-January, the 21-year-old qualified twice for the final passage in Bischofshofen in contrast to his 22-year-old competitor.
Meanwhile, Ammann only makes “small progress”, stated Künzle. “The transition from the jump to the flight phase does not fit. Simon has to stay better over the ski and get into the sliding phase.” The coach made it clear: “In the Continental Cup, he has to jump far forward, otherwise a World Cup comeback is unrealistic.”
Ammann continues to worry about participating in the Nordic Ski World Cup in Trondheim (February 26 to March 9).
“His achievements are not correct,” the Swiss ski jumping boss Joel Bieri had emphasized at the end of January. With a view to the World Cup nomination, there is “no Olympic winner bonus. The performance principle applies”.
Ski jumping: Simon Ammann finished tour prematurely
Ammann officially lost his place in the Swiss World Cup squad at the beginning of January. “He has to find confidence in his jumps,” said Künzle at the time.
The four -hillt tour was demolished by Ammann after qualifying for opening jumping in Oberstdorf. “He decided this together with the coaching team. Instead, he will take a training block at home and concentrate on the further season,” said the Swiss Ski Association at the time.
Ammann had just missed the leap into the 50-strong starting field for the first competition of the four-hill tour by the ungrateful 51st place in the qualification. He no longer started in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Innsbruck and Bischofshofen.
