Erna de Jong from Best is still embarrassed about what happened this Monday morning. Around ten to nine, she and her friend were startled by a fierce fire in the house under their apartment on the Draadeind: “We heard a huge bang and the flames immediately hit the windows.” She thinks something has exploded.
Her house barely suffered damage. But just to be sure, afterwards the photos of her grandchildren took out when she and her friend had to leave the house. The apartment under that of her burned completely and the lower neighbor had to be saved from his house by the fire brigade.
Ambulance staff then took care of him, but how he is doing is not clear.
Afterwards thought that her neighbor was already going to work. She surprises that he was still at home, she says. “His home is really gone,” she says.
“Something must have exploded,” she thinks. “I think close to the window of the living room. I think something exploded there, after which a kind of fireball came out immediately. The flames ran out of the building and the smoke went up quickly, past our windows. We walked outside immediately after that bang and called the fire brigade. “
The police said that the circumstances of the fire are still being investigated. According to the fire brigade, there was no more saving after arrival.
