The Indian chess player Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa has won the 87th edition of the international chess tournament in Wijk aan Zee. He grabbed the title by beating world champion and countryman Dommaraju Gukesh in a tiebreak. A decision with parties Quick Chess was needed after both Indian grand masters had collected the same number of points after thirteen regular laps.
The 19-year-old Praggnanandhaa is the successor of the Chinese Wei Yi, who this year played unobtrusively in Tata Steel Chess and finished sixth.
