The Swedish pole vaulter married model Desiré Inglander on June 12th. The couple shared pictures from the wedding with friends and families on the Cote d’Azur on Instagram. Duplantis also dedicates his own song to his wife.
“Midsummer” is about the couple’s first meeting at the Midsummer festival in Sweden. Duplantis sings, “I want you so bad it hurts, you stole my heart at Midsummer.”
Duplantis and Inglander had already married civilly in Sweden in the spring. Now the big celebration followed.
“It was the most beautiful fusion of cultures we could have hoped for. Half of my friends and family are from Louisiana, the other half, along with my wife Desiré and her family, are from Sweden,” Duplantis told Vogue: “This mix, together with our international friends, created an incredibly lively atmosphere. We felt so loved and valued.”
Athletics: Duplantis suffers surprising defeat
In terms of sport, Duplantis had unexpectedly stumbled recently. After almost three years and 40 victories, the world record holder (6.31) had to admit defeat to the Australian Kurtis Marschall (5.90) at the Diamond League meeting in Stockholm with a distance of 5.80 m, which was out of the question for him, and came second.
Before that, the 26-year-old exceptional talent last failed to win in Brussels in July 2023 (fourth place).
