Russia convenes Security Council over chemical weapons

Russia wants the United Nations Security Council to meet on Friday to discuss “the US military biological activities on the territory of Ukraine”. Senior Russian UN diplomat Dmitry Polyansky says on Twitter that he has submitted a request.

On Thursday, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that the US had invested $200 million in labs in Ukraine as part of a “biological warfare program”. The ministry published documents that would substantiate this, but are not verifiable.

Russia has accused the United States of developing chemical and biological weapons in Ukraine for some time. The US denies that. On Wednesday, the White House warned that Russia may want to use the allegations to clear the way for its own use of these weapons in Ukraine. Also, according to the White House, Russia could carry out a chemical attack “under a false flag” and then blame another country for it.
