The first report of the fire to De Stroet was made at 5.41 pm. A spokesperson for the Security Region said that one of the residents themselves called the fire brigade. The moment emergency services arrived, the residents had already left the house.
The fire brigade soon scaled up because of the size of the fire. The spokesperson called it an ‘intense fire’. The street was completely closed off, so that the fire brigade could fully focus on fire fighting.
Fire brigade: Keep distance
Spectators of the fire were called to take a distance from flying fire. The spokesperson said that bystanders are indeed at an appropriate distance. “But it is a burning farmhouse with a thatched roof. The heat is released through the heat. If the wind starts to run, you risk. Hence the call.”
In the course of the evening a grab crane was used to pull the rubble apart. “This way the fire brigade can also reach the heat at the bottom.”
No injuries were made during the fire. How the fire could arise is sorted out.
