Norwegian ship Silver Daniawith a fully Russian crew, was released again on Saturday by the Norwegian police after it was initially suspected of involvement in the damage to a submarine fiber optic cable that connects Latvia with Sweden in the Baltic Sea last weekend.

According to the Norwegian police, there would be no direct evidence that the ship is directly related to the damage. “The investigation is being continued, but we see no reason to hold the ship in Tromsø for longer,” said Ronny Jørgensen, lawyer of the Tromsø police according to AP news agency.

The ship was stopped on Thursday evening and brought to the port to Norway on Friday morning for inspection. This was at the request of the Latvian authorities and after a decision by a Norwegian court. The ship sailed with a Norwegian flag between the Russian cities of St. Petersburg and Moermansk.
