The cash register is ringing in Eindhoven. After the victory over Liverpool, PSV has already earned more than 50 million euros in the Champions League. That is already more than last season when the people of Eindhoven were eliminated in the eighth final. If that eighth final is now being achieved again, many more millions look. A big contrast with 20 years ago when PSV reached the semi -final of the million ball and ‘only’ could add 15 million.

Financial director Jaap van Baar will have gone to bed with a good feeling on Wednesday evening. He knows that PSV already earned more than 50 million euros this season in the Champions League. And that while only ‘only’ the interim round has been reached.

Last season PSV came to the eighth final, the round that is only now being reached after surviving the intermediate round. Even then, PSV added an amount of around 50 million euros in the bank account. The fact that PSV has already earned just as much money, while the sporting performance is less, is a trend that has been going on for years.

CL yields PSV

Starting premium: 18.62 million profit premiums: 9.8 million 14th place: 6.3 million UEFA Bonus: 17 million

Total: about 52 million

Tripled
The money in the football players against the skirting boards and this year the prize money in the Champions League is much higher. That has to do with the fact that the group stage was expanded with two extra competitions. The total prize money is 2.4 billion euros.

A stark contrast with exactly twenty years ago. Then PSV reached the semi -final of the Champions League. AC Milan was narrowly too strong in that semi -final. The amount that the Eindhoven team then earned is in no proportion to the amounts of today. PSV earned 15.7 million on the entire Champions League campaign.

Another 11 million?
Twenty years later, reaching an interim round is enough for at least triple. Provided PSV survives the intermediate round against Juventus or Feyenoord, another 11 million euros is added. These amounts are all excluding the proceeds from ticket sales. If you would also include it, PSV goes to a turnover of more than 65 million euros.

It is very unlikely, but nice to know. If PSV won the Champions League, the club takes another 63.5 million.
