Borussia Dortmund is currently in a crisis. But this does not come from nowhere, says Mats Hummels.
BVB is already out in the DFB Cup, in the Bundesliga it is only in 11th place after 19 games and in the Champions League, Dortmund threatens to miss the direct entry into the round of 16. In addition, there is a new vertebrae about the BVB bosses with regard to possible new obligations (more about the difficulties Read here). No wonder that former top performers such as Mats Hummels watch the situation closely.
The AS Rome defender told the TV channels RTL/NTV: “It hurts, especially with my love for the club, to see that.” However, the defender, which was moved to Italy last summer, also emphasized that the problems were not new.
“Some topics do not develop in a few weeks, but have been a topic for a long time,” the 2014 world champion continued. The central defender also reported that he had already talked a lot about grievances internally in the past. “I think that has now also been noticed that this is probably only one thing now, from problems that may exist a little longer,” continued Hummels. However, he left open how exactly these problems look.
Despite his critical analysis, the former BVB captain was optimistic that the club will take the right measures: “Of course, I hope that everything will quickly get into the right waters.”
Dortmund is still looking for a successor for Nuri Şahin. In the interior, U19 coach Mike Tullberg took over the team. Most recently, according to media reports, Niko Kovač was considered a candidate. BVB is said to have also had talks with Ralf Rangnick (read more about the meeting here).
