The municipality of Helmond has made a mistake with a payment for the second time in a short time. The municipality itself announced this in a letter to the city council. This time it concerns sixty thousand euros in subsidy that has been transferred to the wrong account number. Also, the amount was not transferred one, but twice, once to the wrong account.
The municipality has since received the money back. Last year the municipality of Helmond kicked in an email from scammers and she lost almost a ton. The municipality transferred money to a supplier that is well -known for her, she thought. But Helmond received a reminder from the supplier and then the scams came to light. The invoice was insufficiently controlled, it turned out after investigation. “The agreed working method was not followed,” the municipality explained.

Now the municipality has again gone wrong with a payment. According to a letter to the council, two mistakes have even been made. It was not properly checked whether the subsidy had already been provided, so that the money was transferred for a second time. And then it was also transferred to the wrong account, so that the money ended up at another organization. That organization has since refunded the money. Something that must also be done according to the law.
The municipality was pointed out by a councilor. But the mistake had also come to light when checking the financial statements, she says.
‘Vulnerable process’
According to Helmond, paying out subsidies is still a ‘too vulnerable process’. That is why the municipal administration has long wanted to improve the grant grant. “The importance of this is demonstrated again with this case,” the municipality writes in the letter. “In particular, reducing the amount of manual work is of great importance. After all, a typo is made that way. “
