The government wants to use the money from the European Social Climate Fund to make the transition to sustainable energy affordable for everyone. Various ministries have drawn up plans for this. The internet consultation for these plans starts today.

The Social Climate Fund is a fund of the European Union for a fair energy transition. The Dutch government can get money from this fund: 720 million euros for the period 2026-2032.

The government has developed four proposals that help with the affordability of the energy bill or stimulate sustainable solutions. Vulnerable households and small businesses were looked into.

Before June 30, the cabinet will choose whether the money from the Social Climate Fund is used for one or more of these proposals:

  1. Households with a low income and a high energy bill financially support and help make their homes more energy efficient.
  2. Households help with the switch to cleaner transport, such as electric cars or bicycles.
  3. Small companies offer advice and help to save energy and to lower their costs.
  4. Existing policy that already helps with the energy transition again.

We would like to hear what you think of these proposals. With your feedback we can make our proposals better.

Interested parties can respond until 25 February 2025 on the internet consultation ‘Proposals for the Social Climate Fund’.
