More than a hundred tips have now been received by the police about the art theft from the Drents Museum in Assen. According to the police, the count continues to rise.
A gold helmet and three gold bracelets were taken during the burglary. The pieces were part of an exhibition Dacia – Empire of gold and silver.
A team of dozens of detectives reviews all tips. Last night the police announced that the gray Volkswagen that was used was stolen in Alkmaar on Wednesday evening. The car received a new license plate on the A7 near Witmarsum (Friesland). This concerns the car that was found burnt out at Rolde after the burglary.
The tips are about the car and people who behaved suspiciously in the museum the day before the theft. The police confirm earlier reporting from De Telegraaf that it is possible that the thieves have fled to Germany. “But we look broader than that, the investigation is ongoing,” said a spokesperson.
