Victory also for Reggio Emilia in Tortona with 23 points from Winston

January 25, 2025 (changed at 10.58pm) – MILAN

Trapani dominates for 40′ and beats Pistoia at home 104-60. Repesa’s team wins the third match in a row and confirms itself as leaders. The other match of the evening, among the previews of this seventeenth matchday of Serie A, sees Napoli’s second consecutive victory, 90-78 at the Palaverde in Treviso, against Nutribullet. Erick Green was amazing, scoring 25. In the afternoon matches, however, Brescia and Reggio Emilia won. Poeta’s men bully Varese by 41 points: Bilan dominates, finishing with a double double. In Masnago it ends 118-77. In Tortona, Bertram was overtaken by Reggio Emilia, who won, 69-67, with a super Winston in a scorching final: a success that earned the Emilians a lead in the standings over De Raffaele’s team.

VARESE-BRESCIA 77-118

After the comeback suffered by Tortona, which earned them their second defeat in three games, and Trapani’s top spot in the standings, it was reasonable to expect a response from Brescia. And the answer, the Poeta team, writes it in capital letters. Germani bulldozes Varese at the Itelyum Arena, thanks to a devastating offensive performance and the physical dominance of Miro Bilan. The Croatian center finished with a double double with 27 points and 16 rebounds, shooting 12/15 from the field, unstoppable for his opponents. Brescia took a double-digit lead already at the end of the first quarter and never looked back: too much difference between the two teams, with Openjobmetis destroyed by the quality of the guests’ attack (33 assists). Seven players in double figures for Brescia, with Rivers hot from 3 (5/9), Burnell, Della Valle and Ndour feasting. The hosts still report defensive problems: after the 111 points conceded to Pistoia, here are the 118 against Germani, who are momentarily smiling again at the top of the table.

Varese: Akobundu-Ehiogu 17, Alviti 16, Librizzi 15 Brescia: Bilan 27, Rivers 16, Della Valle 13

TORTONA-REGGIO EMILIA 67-69

Anything happens at the Palaenergica Paolo Ferraris, but in the end it is Reggio Emilia that rejoices. Priftis’ men thus interrupt the streak of four consecutive defeats thanks to the super performance of Cassius Winston, author of 23 points. However, there are many regrets for Tortona, fresh from the feat in extra time in Brescia: this time, however, Bertram came back from behind twice. In fact, De Raffaele’s men had started very well, finding themselves leading 26-11 in the 10th minute. In the second quarter, however, the home team’s attack completely stalled: 0/9 from 3, 4 turnovers and just 6 points scored against Unahotels’ 26. In the second half the two teams continue to exchange partials, with the challenge between Vital and Winston, and the battle in the area between Faye and Kamagate (9 rebounds to 11). In the final, Tortona gets back to +5 thanks to a penetration by Vital, but from that moment the lights go out: 4 points in a row from Winston, who then also recovers the ball in defense and Faye extends the lead. With 33” to play, Vital makes it 1/2 to the line and ties the game at 67, and it is Winston who plays the decisive possession: the former Washington player scores in penetration leaving just three seconds on the clock, which is enough for Vital to create the last shot. His triple, however, spins on the rim before going out, leaving the home crowd stunned.

Tortona: Vital 21, Candi 7, Gorham 7

Reggio Emilia: Winston 23, Faye 14, Barford 8

TRAPANI-PISTOIA 104-60

Trapani immediately enforced the law of the strongest at the start, showing all its offensive potential. Petruccelli and Galloway punish in transition, Horton dominates inside the area and Alibegovic takes advantage of his qualities in one-on-one situations. Forrest is the only light in Okorn’s dull attack (24-14 at 10′). The inertia does not change even in the second period. Repesa’s team enjoys an excellent Yeboah, who enters a positive streak, together with Eboua and Brown. The Sicilians clearly dominate the field and even reach +26, after an overturned basket by Petruccelli. It is always Forrest, together with Della Rosa, who tries to shake up Estra. At 20′, however, the gap remains very wide, 57-30. In the second half there is no story, the Sharks manage the accumulated advantage and bring home victory number 13 of their championship.

Trapani: Alibegovic 17, Galloway 15, Horton and Yeboah 15

Pistoia: Forrest 14, Della Rosa and Rowan 10

TREVISO-NAPLES 78-90

Nutribullet started better, with Paulicap and Caroline causing harm inside the area and Olisevicius guaranteeing two-dimensionality to the Venetian attack. Despite the flashes of Pangos and Green, Napoli suffered a 9-0 run, which dug the decisive furrow for Treviso’s 25-17 in the 10th minute. At the start of the second period, Vitucci’s team found a new +11, thanks to baskets from Macura and Mascolo. Immediately afterwards comes another break (0-12), but this time it is Neapolitan. Zubcic, Green and De Nicolao are responsible for signing it. The end of the first half is point to point, with Caroline as a great protagonist: 42-41 in favor of Treviso at the long break. Even after returning from the break, the balance persisted, but was interrupted when the Neapolitans, with triples from Zubcic and Green, in addition to the work of Totè and Woldetensae under the boards, overturned the result. Mazzola puts two possessions back between the teams from the arc, at the stroke of the thirtieth minute (61-67). The aforementioned Croatian and number 32 continue to prove themselves in the evening. Bowman and Caroline try to keep Treviso up, but the guests now have the momentum of the match in their hands (82-69 at 36′) and manage until the final siren.

Treviso: Caroline 20, Olisevicius 18, Bowman 15 Napoli: Green 25, Totè 16, Zubcic 15, Pangos 11
