The Hague city councilor Rita Verdonk of the local party Hart voor The Hague reported on Saturday against alderman Mariëlle Vavier (GroenLinks). According to Verdonk, Vavier has committed an official crime by sharing secret documents with Hagenaren. That is what the party registers an explanation. The alderman Vavier has taken note of the message, according to her spokeswoman for the ANP news agency.

The secret information would be about a new reception facility. Hart voor The Hague asked the Hague College to lift confidentiality, but caught bone. Nevertheless, according to Verdonk’s party, the alderman sent an information letter to residents with ‘almost the same information as in the secret documents’ with the request not to leak the information. The college cannot enforce that, says Hart voor The Hague.

According to the local party, citizens are currently openly talking about the issue, while councilors from The Hague have to keep their mouths shut. “This hinders the council in its work and undermines the democratic process,” says the Stadspartij.

Corruption case

In her statement, Verdonk also involves the criminal case against her party colleague Richard de Mos. The former alderman and deputy mayor resigned in 2019 because he was a suspect in a large corruption case, but was acquitted in 2023. “This case […] Has left deep tracks in the town hall and in the city. I find that the college is so easy to ignore all the agreements about confidentiality on her boot, ”says Verdonk on the website.
