The Drents Museum will close its doors this weekend after an explosion last night. It is not yet clear whether the perpetrators took anything.

The police are still investigating the museum. Around a quarter to four there was an explosion at the historic building in the city center of Assen. The explosion broke several windows in the museum and surrounding buildings. It is unclear how extensive the damage is to the building.

At 9 a.m. the police, the municipality and the Drents Museum met for an emergency meeting about the incident. The museum is currently hosting an exhibition about the Dacians, an Eastern European people known for their gold and silver treasures. There are more than 650 gold and silver treasures from Eastern Europe in the Drents Museum.
