The experiment will start on the night of March 14 to 15. This concerns the train that runs on the Zwolle-Schiphol route during the night from Friday to Saturday and Saturday to Sunday. Arriva will provide the service. The municipalities of Almere and Lelystad each pay 100,000 euros to keep the night train running.
That is why travelers at Almere station now see opportunities. “Then you can at least go out to other cities and just return home,” said a traveler. Another adds: “If you want to come back later after going out, you don’t have to wait until 6 a.m. to go back home.”
Influence on the catering industry
The nightlife in Amsterdam is popular, so what does that mean for the catering industry in Almere? There is no panic at Café Cheers in the center. “We are very positive,” says owner Sandra Scheffer. “It goes both ways, of course, because if you can go to Amsterdam, you can also come to Almere. I think the flow to here is a little less, but the option is now there, so we are going to open the doors wide. Everyone is welcome here, we expect something from it.”
