After David Lynch’s death, of course, there was a lot of praise for the uniqueness of “Twin Peaks”. The Mystery series revolutionized series television and became a pioneer for all the quality series in recent years.

In 1992, the director released another television series with “Twin Peaks” co-showrunner Mark Frost, which is largely forgotten today. Some would say: rightly. “On the Air” fell completely after the first episodes from June 20 to July 4th at ABC in the USA, both among both the audience and criticism. Even though the screenplays, like “Twin Peaks”, came partly from Robert Engels and came the music of Angelo Badalameni. Perhaps it was not to convey to the spectators that all jokes were repeated again in every episode.

Of the seven episodes produced, only three were shown in US TV. After all, there were all episodes in other European countries and Great Britain.

What was “on the air?”

“On the Air” played in the 1950s (that decade that Lynch reflected in many of its films with almost mythological energy) and revolves around the chaotic production of a fictional live TV show called “The Lester Guy Show”. Even more than “Twin Peaks”, the series relies on absurd humor and bizarre characters, but also has surreal elements.

The main role played the main role Ian Buchanan, who also had a strange parade role in “Twin Peaks” as an arrogant fashion consultant Dick Tremayne. Miguel Ferrer, who appeared in “Twin Peaks” and later in “Twin Peaks-The Return” as a FBI agent Albert Rosenfield, also had a supporting role.

For David Lynch’s hard fans, “On The Air” is a great pleasure, although the series never gives the impression of getting a good idea beyond the initial stage. However, the TV series is not available on DVD or Blu-ray. It is also not broadcast on any streaming service. However, all episodes can be found (in the original and with Japanese subtitles) on the Website of the Internet archives.
