The guitarist and background singer takes a stand.

Tech mogul Elon Musk also spoke at the inauguration of the 47th President of the United States, Donald Trump. At the end of his speech he shocked people with a gesture that was very reminiscent of the Hitler salute. Now Frank Iero from My Chemical Romance reacted to the event – with very clear words.

Frank Iero has had enough

On Monday, January 20th, the time had come: Trump was officially sworn in as President of the USA for the second time in the White House. In addition to his controversial speech, several of the Republican’s other allies also spoke. One of them was supporter Elon Musk. What particularly caused a stir during his speech was the farewell gesture that Musk made with great fervor. The 53-year-old hit his chest with his right hand before stretching his arm diagonally upwards, palm down. The South African native then turned to the audience behind the podium and repeated the gesture just as passionately. That greeting was very reminiscent of the Hitler salute, with which it was again compared online. One user wrote in reference to Musk’s greeting to X: “It can’t be that Elon Musk did a ‘Sieg Heil’ at Trump’s inauguration. A damn Nazi salute, as clear as day.”

Now Frank Iero is also reporting the incident via social media. The 43-year-old shares a photo of a television on Instagram, with Musk’s greeting clearly visible on the screen. The My Chemical Romance member writes, visibly angry: “Fuck this guy and every single person who supports this shit or even wastes their breath defending him. Your true colors are coming out now.”

The US guitarist and background singer had apparently turned off the comment function. He probably didn’t want to say anything more about it. His band as a whole has not commented on Musk or Trump. In general, the rock scene is surprisingly quiet when it comes to political statements after the inauguration.

Musk, who played a key role in Trump’s election victory and was later appointed head of the Department of Government Efficiency by the new US president, responded to the criticism only by saying that it was “so tiring.”
