On Friday evening, 1. FC Magdeburg will face Eintracht Braunschweig – in the first home game since the attack on the Christmas market. The FCM has come up with a special campaign for this.
On Friday evening, Eintracht Braunschweig will be visiting 1. FC Magdeburg (6.30 p.m.). For the FCM, the duel with Eintracht is the first home game since the attack on the Magdeburg Christmas market in December.
Those responsible were offering a special promotion for the duel with the penultimate team in the 2nd Bundesliga. The association is providing 250 tickets for those affected by the attack and emergency services. The Magdeburgers provided information about this on their homepage.
“The terrible attack on the Magdeburg Christmas market has deeply shaken and shocked us all,” says the relevant post on the website. “As already announced, our club wants to be an ‘anchor of confidence’ for the people of the city and region during this difficult time.”
Because the free tickets are issued to people without proof or questions, the association asks uninvolved people not to take advantage of this offer. “We appeal to everyone else’s decency, morality and respect,” write the Magdeburgers. The tickets can be picked up in advance in the fan shop or on the day of the match at the info point at the main West box office.
In the attack in Magdeburg shortly before Christmas, a 50-year-old drove a car into the Christmas market and hit many visitors. Five people died on the day of the crime – a nine-year-old child and four women between the ages of 45 and 75. In addition, a 52-year-old woman died from her injuries after the turn of the year.
Since the events, no home games have been scheduled for FCM. This will now happen in the new year against Eintracht. In any case, the duel between the two teams is a special encounter. Braunschweig and Magdeburg have been twinned since 1987.
