The wet quicksand is located between the Westhinder and the Rotonde. The coastal municipality has placed preventive warning signs at the beach accesses, at De Rotonde and the Westhinder catering business. De Haan is taking this measure after two people got stuck in quicksand on Friday.
Wilfried Vandaele, Mayor De Haan: “On Friday afternoon we received a report that there was a strip of quicksand, two people had collapsed there. We were able to get them out, bystanders were able to solve that. Apparently that can happen, that the sand becomes unstable. But if the tide ebbs and flows a few times, everything will be fine.”
