The current transfer phase is going quite quietly for FC Bayern, but there is a rumor from the last few days: According to media reports, the Munich team wants to sign former Leipzig player Christopher Nkunku from Chelsea. The player himself is reportedly already insisting on a transfer deal.
Christopher Nkunku is “waiting” for an agreement between FC Bayern and Chelsea FC, reports transfer reporter Sacha Tavolieri in an article for “Sky”.
In addition: The 27-year-old has already spoken to Munich head coach Vincent Kompany and agrees to a return to the Bundesliga. He has decided that he would like to leave the Blues this winter – as part of a permanent transfer and not as a loan player.
The Frenchman came to RB Leipzig from Paris Saint-Germain in 2019, where he developed into one of the most dangerous attackers in the German upper house. In his last season for the Saxons, he scored 16 goals in 25 games and was joint top scorer with then Bremen player Niclas Füllkrug.
Only a year and a half after his 60 million euro move to Chelsea, it is said that he is now heading back to Germany.
Will FC Bayern bring in Nkunku as Sané’s successor?
Because: Under team manager Enzo Maresca, the right-footer is only part of the extended regular staff; he has only been in the starting line-up three times in the Premier League. He made his further 15 league appearances as a substitute, so his previous tally of two goals is correspondingly low.
Nkunku has proven what he is capable of so far in the UEFA Conference League: there he was in the starting line-up in five of six games and scored five goals.
Nkunku, according to transfer reporter Tavolieri, fits perfectly into the Bayern manager grid – especially because the future of national player Leroy Sané has not yet been clarified. The attacker’s contract expires in the summer and an extension currently seems unlikely.
In order for FC Bayern to agree to a deal, Chelsea FC would probably have to lower the transfer fee. According to “Sky” it should be 70 million euros.
At a press conference before the first half of the season against TSG Hoffenheim, FCB sporting director Christoph Freund gave little prospect that the mega transfer would take place: “If it is the case that we continue into the season like this – and that is our plan – then it’s not an issue that we bring in someone on the offensive because we are very, very well positioned in terms of quality and numbers.”
“Sky” reporter Florian Plettenberg then described the Austrian’s denial as a “tactical no” and claimed that FC Bayern was still working on signing the Chelsea star. Nkunku is still the number one transfer target, according to the assessment.
