Double pack against Wolfsburg

After FC Bayern Munich’s home win against VfL Wolfsburg, coach Vincent Kompany praised match winner Leon Goretzka for his handling of his temporarily difficult situation with the record champions and at the same time declared him a role model for other football professionals.
“Leon always worked and was always hungry in training. He responded the right way, with his feet, not words. I would recommend this to every professional,” Kompany said of Goretzka. The 29-year-old stood out as a two-goal scorer in Munich’s 3-2 win in the Bundesliga on Saturday. Goretzka started the season only as a reservist and even a sales candidate. But he wasn’t discouraged and didn’t want to change.
“What’s important for me is the opinion within,” said Kompany. “Leon’s story is good for the team. There are also other boys who are in a phase where things aren’t going so well.” Goretzka should be a role model for them. Sports director Max Eberl called the player a “model professional”.
Expiring Bayern contracts: Neuer’s outlook “on his own behalf”
Captain Manuel Neuer expects positive contract news from FC Bayern soon. “The future will continue to go well for FC Bayern. I believe that a lot will happen in the near future. And that we will then announce something – on our own behalf,” said Neuer after the win against VfL Wolfsburg. “Those responsible will then announce whether new players from outside will be added.”
Neuer’s contract extension beyond the end of the season is generally considered a formality. The contracts of Joshua Kimmich and Alphonso Davies also expire at the end of the season. With Davies, after media speculation as with Jamal Musiala (contract until mid-2026), the Munich team is said to have taken important steps towards an extension in tough negotiations.
“I can’t influence what happens in the media. I can only influence where we try to conduct the contracts, the discussions, the negotiations so that they come to a conclusion,” said sports director Eberl on Saturday evening. “Everything from the outside is outside, and hopefully we will announce it at some point.” When asked about Neuer’s statement, the sports director said with a smile: “It’s our captain. And we know more internally than outside.”
