Jan Slagter, the boss of Omroep MAX, regularly stands up for misbehaving men, but Tygo Gernandt receives no support. “Just tell the story, you know. Why don’t you dare?”

It’s starting to look more and more like Tygo Gernandt’s career is for the time being on hold because it doesn’t look good on your CV if you are fired somewhere for misconduct and you also turn out to be guilty of domestic violence. The video of him dragging his ex-girlfriend Dianne van den Eng through a corridor is telling.

Series with Tygo

People who are guilty of those kinds of things receive no support from MAX boss Jan Slagter. He points out Renze also on Peter Gillis. “I think the current FIOD case is a bit different when it comes to that other case with an ex of his, where violence was used. Then I just have to find the FIOD peanuts compared to what happened there.”

Host Renze Klamer: “It’s apples and oranges, but what is also very important is the fuss surrounding Tygo Gernandt. On the one hand, that evening in a pub with people from production where things went wrong, and on the other hand, that hassle with his ex of which the video came out. Suppose you had a drama series with Tygo in it…”

Behind my ears

Jan then admits that he would find a series with Tygo difficult. “Yes, that would make me scratch my head twice.”

Renze then: “Yes, but you just said: ‘If there is no statement…’”

Jan: “No, but look, we all know… What I don’t understand about Gillis, but not about Tygo either… He will come up with an explanation of what happened at Flikken Maastricht. (…) But why when it comes to that case with his ex… Just tell the story, you know. Everyone is now just guessing what happened and what the reason is.”

“Why don’t you dare?”

Jan finds it strange that Tygo does not simply come forward about domestic violence. “Why doesn’t someone, when there is such an accusation, dare to sit here at the table? I think, if it is in the public and there are all those accusations, why don’t you find a platform to tell your side of the story?”

Fellow guest Jody Bernal would certainly never do that on a talk show. No matter what, you always get everyone all over you, he says. “I see him throwing someone out of his house, but only by the jacket. He could also pull her hair. Everything he says if he were sitting here could go wrong.”
