Borussia Dortmund is in an explosive sporting crisis. What happens next? The sports director gave information after the defeat against Frankfurt.
The crisis at BVB is coming to a head. Contrary to the usual course of action of firing the coach, the club bosses are sticking to their guns: Şahin should continue. Sports director Sebastian Kehl made this clear in an interview with DAZN after the Frankfurt game. “We are all very disappointed, we have planned and imagined things completely differently this year. Of course we are now in a table constellation that leaves us all very unsatisfactory,” said Kehl, who then made it clear how things should continue.
“Yes, we have questions to answer and results to achieve. But we have already answered a few questions. We will continue in this constellation, Nuri has the trust. Nevertheless, we will of course try to see each game on its own terms, Because we need results and successful games. For that we have to put in the hard work.”
Kehl generally believes that the team can do more, but they have “few arguments” because of the series of defeats and will not escape criticism.
Nuri Şahin only took over the job at BVB at the start of the season, but the first half of the season was Dortmund’s worst in ten years. “The situation is catastrophic and doesn’t do justice to the club. But we have to get through it now. You won’t hear anything different from me until the last day that I’m a coach here,” Şahin said later.
“The arguments are performance and results. I don’t need confirmation every three days that I’m staying in office. I know how business works.” Internally, however, people are very, very critical. “We know about the situation, we know about the situation. But that I need a shoulder to cry on – for God’s sake. I already know what kind of job I’m doing,” added Nuri Şahin.
