Neymar’s disappointing chapter in Saudi Arabia with Al-Hilal SFC is coming to an end. The Brazilian superstar, who is currently suffering from a thigh injury, was not registered for the second half of the Saudi Pro League. This was announced by coach Jorge Jesus at the press conference following Al-Hilal’s 9-0 record win against Al-Fateh.
The Portuguese also made a devastating assessment of the 32-year-old’s fitness level. “The Saudi Arabian league is one of the best leagues in the world. All Al-Hilal players can play for any club in Europe. Neymar is no longer at the level we are used to. Unfortunately, things have become difficult for him.”
Neymar has only made seven appearances (1 goal) for the Saudi record champions since his 90 million euro move in the summer of 2023. In October 2023 he initially tore his cruciate ligament and was out for 368 days. After his comeback, he made two short appearances in the AFC Champions League Elite and then injured his thigh again in the game against Iranian representatives Esteghlal FC. His contract expires in the summer.
There has been speculation for months about a move to the USA or back to his home country of Brazil, but now one option seems to be becoming more concrete. According to consistent reports, the Chicago Fire are intensively looking into the superstar, whose contract expires at the end of the season. Bastian Schweinstiger’s former club has secured the MLS rights to Neymar and is therefore the only club in the MLS that is allowed to negotiate with the offensive artist.
With the naturally difficult transfer for the bottom of the Eastern Conference table, a similar model for Neymar is conceivable as with Lionel Messi’s signing from Inter Miami. In addition to his salary, the Argentine world star also receives a share of sales of the Apple TV season pass, which allows you to watch MLS games.
