David Lynch is dead. The American filmmaker and musician died at the age of 78. Of course, many fans of the “Twin Peaks” director are now wondering about the cause of death.

The official report of his death does not yet reveal a cause of death. “It is with deep regret that we, his family, announce the passing of man and artist David Lynch. We would appreciate having some privacy during this time. He leaves a huge void in the world as he is no longer with us. But, as he would say, ‘Keep your eye on the donut and not the hole. It’s a beautiful day with golden sunshine and blue skies all around,'” reads the statement his family posted on his social media channels.

David Lynch: Health problems in recent years

Lynch has struggled with serious health problems in recent years. In an interview with the British film magazine “Sight and Sound”, Lynch reported that he had been diagnosed with a serious lung disease. “I have emphysema from smoking for so long, and that’s why I’m housebound whether I want to or not… And now, because of COVID, it would be very bad for me to get sick, even with a small cold” said the filmmaker at the time. He could only travel a short distance before he ran out of breath.

“It’s like walking around with a plastic bag around your head.”

David Lynch was a smoker for many decades and said he started smoking at the age of eight. “Every smoker plays with fire, it can get you. “I took the risk and got caught,” he told People magazine. He said of his illness: “It’s like walking around with a plastic bag around your head.”

It has not yet been confirmed whether this is correlated with the director’s death. An official statement on the cause of death is still pending.
