Kyle MacLachlan remembered David Lynch on Instagram. The director, for whom he appeared in front of the camera in “Dune”, “Blue Velvet”, the “Twin Peaks” series and the “Fire Walk With Me” film (he did not cast anyone more often) died on Thursday (January 16th ) at the age of 78.

“Forty-two years ago, David Lynch brought me out of obscurity for reasons I cannot understand. To star in his first and last big-budget film (I meant “Dune”, note). He clearly saw something in me that even I didn’t recognize. I owe my entire career and actually my life to his vision.

What I saw in him was an enigmatic and intuitive man with a creative ocean rushing forth within him. He was in touch with something the rest of us wished we could achieve too.

Our friendship blossomed with ‘Blue Velvet’ and then ‘Twin Peaks’. And I always found him to be the most authentic and lively person I had ever met.

“He wasn’t interested in answers because he understood that questions are the driving force that makes us who we are”

David was in tune with the universe and his own imagination on a level that seemed to be the best version of man. He wasn’t interested in answers because he understood that questions are the fuel that makes us who we are. They are our breath.

While the world has lost a remarkable artist, I have lost a dear friend who envisioned a future for me. And allowed me to travel to worlds I could never have imagined on my own.

I can still see him standing up to greet me in his backyard. With a warm smile and a warm hug and that honk-of-a-voice from the Great Plains. We talked about coffee, the joy of the unexpected, the beauty of the world and laughed.

His love for me and mine for him arose from the cosmic fate of two people who saw the best in themselves in each other.

I will miss him more than my language can express or my heart can bear. My world is so much fuller because I knew him, and so much emptier now that he’s gone.

David, I will remain forever changed and I will forever be your Kale. Thank you for everything.”

Walton Goggins comments:

Among the Instagram followers who commented on Kyle MacLachlan’s note about David Lynch was Walton “Fallout” Goggins. The actor colleague writes:

“Oh Kyle… A match made in heaven, visible and invisible. The whole sky. What I wouldn’t give to have been in a corner of that backyard just to witness the joy and passion in this exchange. I’m thinking of you, buddy. I love you, buddy.”
