Lynch not only created great films and series, but was also responsible for a number of great music videos. We would like to take a look at a few of them here in honor of the late cinema great.
Chris Isaak – “Wicked Game” (1990)
No, it’s not the iconic black and white video of Chris Isaak and Helena Christensen on the beach that we’re talking about here. That comes from Herb Ritts. However, as part of the film “Wild at Heart”, in which the song played an important role, Lynch created his own music video for Isaak’s biggest hit.
Nine Inch Nails – “Came Back Haunted” (2013)
In 2013, Lynch created a video for the song “Came Back Haunted” (released on the long player “Hesitation Marks”) for Nine Inch Nails. An oppressive black and white video with many characteristic Lynch elements: flickering images, surreal distortions and a dark, hypnotic atmosphere.
Moby – “Shot in the Back of the Head” (2009)
In 2009 Moby had something to be happy about – because Lynch made a video for the song “Shot in the Back of the Head”. That was a good fit because Lynch was a big influence for Moby. The “South German newspaperHe once said: “I love all of David Lynch’s films, my favorite is ‘Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me’. But when I say my new album is inspired by David Lynch, I’m referring to a speech he gave at the 2008 BAFTA Awards. He said creativity and art should not care about the market. I want to make music that I love. If it sells, good. If not, that’s fine too.”
Thought Gang – “A Real Indication” (1992)
A DIY music video from 1992, filmed on Hi-8. You can see impressions from “Thought Gang”, the experimental jazz side project by Lynch and Angelo Badalamenti. The recordings were taken while working on “Twin Peaks”.
David Lynch – “Crazy Clown Time” (2011)
In 2011, Lynch released his first solo album, “Crazy Clown Time.” Who would have been more obvious to direct the music video for the title track if not Lynch himself? And no, this time it wasn’t black and white like most of the time.
Donovan – “I Am The Shaman” (2021)
Donovan collaborated with David Lnych on his album “Ritual Groove”. In 2021, David Lynch not only directed the music video for “I Am The Shaman”, a song by Donovan, but also produced the song (together with his engineer Dean Hurley).
