Even during his professional career, Max Kruse had problems maintaining his competitive weight. Now he wants to fight his extra pounds – with a special method.

Ex-national player Max Kruse has an ambitious goal for the new year: The ex-national player wants to lose ten to 15 kilos. The former professional announced this in the “Flatterball” podcast, which he runs together with Martin Harnik. And he also revealed how he wants to do it: with the help of the fat removal injection.

“I have now started working on my figure,” said Kruse. He avoids a classic combination of exercise and a change in diet. Instead, he is testing the so-called fat removal injection. A specific active ingredient (usually consisting of bile acid and/or phosphatidylcholine) is injected directly into the fat deposits, which are intended to be broken down more quickly.

The former Bundesliga professional (including Bremen, Freiburg, Wolfsburg, Werder, Union) started the therapy last week with a low dose of 0.25 milligrams.

“After two weeks, the liver should be tested to see whether it can tolerate it well,” he explained. If the treatment has a positive effect, the dose should be increased gradually to up to one milligram per week.

Kruse sees the advantages of this method primarily in its uncomplicated implementation: “I can eat how I want. And I still lose weight easily,” says the 35-year-old.

Martin Harnik, player coach of TuS Dassendorf, was amused by his colleague’s decision in the podcast episode. “You’re such a marketing victim,” he quipped. Nevertheless, Harnik accompanies Kruse’s experiment with attention and curiosity.

However, the treatment is not cheap. Kruse estimates that the fat removal injections cost around 800 euros for three months. “In the end it’s worth the money. The only thing that counts is the result,” he explained. The plan is to last three to six months, with weekly injections.

Whether the fat removal injection will produce the desired result will be seen in the coming weeks. For Kruse, one thing is certain: the investment in his weight is worth it. His goal remains clear – and the “fight” has begun.
