Peter Doherty, The Libertines and Hamburg
The British native will not only release his fifth solo album in spring 2025, but will also embark on the second half of their UK tour with his band The Libertines in February for their fourth album “The Windmills of Your Mind (Reprise by La Blogothèque)”. The album was released in April 2024 and immediately climbed the British charts. The first part of their tour that followed was sold out.
In addition to the success with The Libertines – founded in 1997 by Doherty and Carl Barât – Peter Doherty also enjoys great popularity as a solo artist. In 2009 he celebrated his debut as a solo artist with the album “Grace / Wastelands”, which landed in the charts in several countries. However, the soloist Doherty’s second album was a long time coming: “Hamburg Demonstrations”.
Doherty created the album after simply staying there after a concert in Hamburg in 2014. At that time, Doherty found himself in a rather chaotic phase of his life, with no plan and no place to live. Through a few lucky coincidences, the Hanseatic city becomes the musician’s haven for a while. The Ode to the City on the Elbe was released in 2016 and Doherty returned after rehab in Thailand and a reunion tour with The Libertines. In 2019 the musician released the project “Peter Doherty and the Puta Madres”.
A new side of Doherty
The corona pandemic and his marriage to musician Katia de Vidas are having a strong effect on Doherty. He says goodbye to the rock star lifestyle and retires to Normandy. Doherty still lives there today with his wife and daughter.
The change in life can also be felt in his music. With his fourth solo album “The Fantasy of Poetry & Crime” Doherty reveals his more quiet and melancholic side.
