Serious allegations against Neil Gaiman were made public as early as July 2024. The British author has been accused by two women of forcing them to have “rough and degrading sex”. It wasn’t until mid-January 2025 that the author of “American God” and “Sandman” spoke out in a blog post. “I have never engaged in non-consensual sexual activity,” he said there. Afterwards, Amanda Palmer was repeatedly asked about the topic. The writer’s ex-wife has now agreed to a non-statement.
Privacy comes first
Background: The singer-songwriter, who was formerly part of the Dresden Dolls, first met Neil Gaiman in 2008. Three years later, Amanda Palmer married the author. In 2022 it was made public that the two wanted to divorce again. They have a son together. And this seems to be the main reason why Palmer, who often appears as an activist, is holding back from making statements in this case.
First, “NME” asked her what she had to say about the Gaiman allegations. Her PR team responded by saying, “While Ms. Palmer is deeply disturbed by allegations that Mr. Gaiman abused multiple women, her primary concern remains the well-being of her son and to protect his privacy, she states “We have no comment on these allegations.”
Shortly afterwards, the 48-year-old New Yorker added via Instagram: “Due to ongoing custody and divorce proceedings, I am unable to make a public comment. Please understand that I am a parent first and foremost. I ask for privacy during this time.”

There are no further requests to speak from the musician. Oh, Gaiman himself is holding back after one blog post. In this he also stated: “I was emotionally unavailable while I was sexually available, I was self-centered and not as considerate as I could or should have been. “I have obviously been careless of other people’s hearts and feelings, and I really regret that.” Nevertheless, it would have been “consensual sexual activity.”
Film industry draws conclusions
The accusations recently led to cuts in Neil Gaiman’s work: several film projects changed course. The planned third season of “Good Omens” was shortened into a single 90-minute episode – although the book adaptation, which was actually completed, was extended because of its success. In addition, Disney+ put the film adaptation of “The Graveyard Book” on hold. Only the second season of “Sandman” is scheduled to go ahead as planned and premiere on Netflix this year.
