The Public Prosecution Service (OM) has demanded eighty hours of community service and a suspended prison sentence of two months against a 30-year-old man from Emmen for sexual assault. The man is said to have groped a girl in an alley while out on February 18.
According to the prosecutor, he grabbed the girl, whom he knew, and pulled her into an alley. That was seen by others, but they saw no harm in it. “Maybe something beautiful will blossom there, I thought,” a friend later told the police. But that turned out not to be the case.
The suspect allegedly put his hand in her pants and groped her. He acknowledged this to the judge. “I stopped when she said she didn’t want this,” he said. He had recently been grabbed by the balls by the woman. “It was a reaction,” he said.
The public prosecutor finds his statement unbelievable. “You haven’t talked about that before,” he said. The prosecutor gives more credence to the complainant’s statement. She would have told her story directly to her friend.
She repeated her version, without changes, to the police. The lawyer believes that the complainant is not completely free: “She started by grabbing him.” The suspect has not previously been convicted.
The court will make its ruling in two weeks.
