National soccer player Kai Havertz and his family are being threatened in the worst possible way on the Internet. The police in Great Britain have now started an investigation.
Police in England have begun investigations into hostilities against the wife of national soccer player Kai Havertz. The British news agency PA reported this two days after Havertz’s club Arsenal FC were eliminated by Manchester United – the trigger for the hate messages. A police spokesman said on Wednesday that it was about “malicious news”: “Investigations are ongoing.”
Havertz was the only shooter to miss in the FA Cup match with Arsenal against Manchester United on Sunday, thus causing the Gunners to go bankrupt. After his missed shot, Havertz was insulted and threatened online.
His pregnant wife Sophia later posted examples of messages in an Instagram story wishing her a miscarriage and threatening to kill the unborn child. “This shocks me very much. I hope you are really ashamed. I don’t know what to say,” she wrote, calling for more respect.
“This is unbelievable,” Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta said at a press conference. “We really have to do something about it. Because if we just accept something like that and sweep it under the table, I think it will have dire consequences,” he said to the journalists present. He described the behavior of the fans involved as “cynical”. Even after Christmas, Havertz was celebrated by the fans in the 1-0 win against Ipswich Town.
Sophia and Kai Havertz have been married since July and announced in November that they were becoming parents.
